NEW! 2025 Legislative Update

The 2025 legislative session ended with the passage of several bills relevant to the Board that the Governor has now approved, including Assembly Bill 177 (this Board’s bill), and Assembly Bill 230 (sponsored by NSHA).

We are working through the administrative tasks needed to address these changes, including licensing database and website revisions, as well as proposed revisions to regulations in NAC 673B to align with or expand on these changes. Please watch for notices of related Public Workshops and Public Hearings in the coming months.

Assembly Bill 177 revises this Board’s law, NRS Chapter 637B, making several significant changes to licensing and scope of practice, effective January 1, 2026.
There are many revisions in this bill, but the most significant changes involve licensing for all three practitioner types:
  • Adds a new license for speech-language pathology assistants (SLPA).
  • Removes the examination & endorsement requirements for audiologists to fit and dispense hearing aids. After January 1, 2026, any audiologist licensed in Nevada may fit and dispense hearing aids and all affected licenses will be converted.
  • Removes NBC-HIS Certification as a requirement for HAS licensure. Proposed revisions to regulations in NAC 637B will address the academic training and on-site training and work experience required for HAS licensure

Assembly Bill 230 establishes Nevada’s membership in the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Compact (ASLP-IC), allowing licensed audiologists and speech-language pathologists to easily obtain a “privilege-to-practice” in member states. Please note that while the bill is effective July 1, 2025, the Compact is not yet fully operational and expects to begin issuing privileges later this year. The Board will be preparing for participation in the coming months and will keep licensees and applicants updated when we are ready for full participation.
