Speech-Language Pathology
Any person seeking to practice speech-language pathology in Nevada - OR - treat a person in Nevada must hold a license issued by this Board regardless of the practitioner's state of residence or other licenses held, or patient's state of residence. Some exceptions apply.

Please note that both our practice law in NRS 637B and regulations in NAC 637B were revised in 2026.
Standard
A standard license is appropriate for any applicant meeting eligibility requirements.
Eligibility & Application Requirements
- Master’s degree or higher from an educational program accredited by ASHA. Official academic transcripts must be sent directly to the Board via mail or electronically from the educational institution. Transcripts are not required if requesting Standard Expedited License by Endorsement as described below. A degree earned from a foreign school must include proof that the educational program is substantially equivalent and accredited by an agency approved by the Board.
- Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP), uploaded directly into the application.
- A current, government issued photo ID, uploaded directly into the application.
- Verification of any current or past license held in another jurisdiction, if applicable, will be completed online by Board staff. If your jurisdiction does not offer online verifications, please have official license verification(s) sent directly to the Board via mail or email.
- Military affiliation documentation, if applicable, must be uploaded in the online application to receive a 50% discount on initial licensing fees.
No additional certifications or examinations are required. All applicants & licensees should be familiar with the practice laws and regulations under which they are applying or licensed to work and may test their knowledge in our optional Jurisprudence Exam.
Reciprocity
License Terms
Standard licenses expire 1 year from the date of initial licensure and may be renewed annually without limit.
- Online renewal opens 60 days prior to the expiration date. Late renewal allowed up to 30 days past expiration for an additional fee. Learn more on our Renew Your License page.
- At least 10 hours of Continuing Education required for renewal, including at least 1 hour related to ethics, cultural competence, cultural humility, culturally responsive practices, or diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Licenses expired for more than 30 days but less than 3 years require a Reinstatement Application. After 3 years, a new application is required.
- May not be converted to a different license type, but may be converted between active and inactive status. Learn more on our Conversions page.
Application & License Fee
Temporary
A temporary license is appropriate for an applicant holding a current, equivalent license issued by any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia, and meeting all requirements for a standard license, but seeking to practice in Nevada or treat a person in Nevada for less than 12 months.
A Temporary license may only be held for a maximum of 1 year, when it expires permanently.

- A current, equivalent license in good standing issued by any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Verification of all current or past license(s) will be completed online by Board staff. License Terms
A temporary license may only be held for a maximum of 1 year, when it expires permanently.
- Expires 6 months from date of initial licensure. May be renewed once for 1 additional 6-month period on request. May not be renewed online and continuing education is not required. Learn more on our Renew Your License page.
- Not eligible for late renewal, reinstatement, or reissuance. If the license expires, a standard license application must be submitted.
- May be converted to a standard license at any time on request and payment of conversion fee. May not be converted to inactive status. Learn more on our Conversions page.
Application & License Fee
Provisional
A provisional license is appropriate for any applicant holding a Master’s degree or higher in speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders, and seeking to practice while completing the clinical fellowship year (CFY) requirement to earn the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).
A Provisional license may only be held for a maximum of 3 years when it expires permanently.

- Master’s degree or higher from an educational program accredited by ASHA. Official academic transcripts must be sent directly to the Board via mail or electronically from the educational institution. A degree earned from a foreign school must include proof that the educational program is substantially equivalent and accredited by an agency approved by the Board.
- PRAXIS Exam passing score sent directly to the Board from Educational Testing Service (ETS).
- A current, government issued photo ID, uploaded directly into the application.
- Verification of any current or past license held in another jurisdiction, if applicable, will be completed online by Board staff. If your jurisdiction does not offer online verifications, please have official license verification(s) sent directly to the Board via mail or email.
- Military affiliation documentation, if applicable, must be uploaded in the online application to receive a 50% discount on initial licensing fees.

Application & License Fee
Assistant
An assistant license is appropriate for an applicant meeting the eligibility requirements and seeking to practice under a supervising speech-language pathologist.
Applicants: Please carefully review the educational eligibility requirements listed below before applying.Eligibility & Application Requirements
- One of the following:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders from an accredited educational program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or an accredited foreign school with a substantially equivalent educational program. and ONE of the following:
- New graduate with 75 hours or more clinical training (50 assisting & 25 observing) completed in the educational program or through ASHA SLPA Certification.
- New graduate with less than 75 hours or more clinical training (50 assisting & 25 observing) completed in the educational program or through ASHA SLPA Certification AND a completed Clinical Training Plan
- Prior graduate with other state license experience and/or ASHA SLPA Certification
- A current Nevada Department of Education license with SLP endorsement issued on or before September 30, 2026, uploaded directly into the online application.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders from an accredited educational program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or an accredited foreign school with a substantially equivalent educational program. and ONE of the following:
- If applicable in #1 above, a completed Clinical Training Plan or Verification of Prior Clinical Training
- Identification of at least 1 Supervising SLP who works for the same employer as the SLPA.
- Disclosure as to whether the SLPA and any Supervising SLP are related through a familial or dating relationship.
- Documentation of the Supervising SLP's completion of at least 2 hours of professional development in clinical instruction or supervision.
- A current government-issued photo ID.
- Verification of any current or past license held in another jurisdiction, if applicable, will be completed online by Board staff. If your jurisdiction does not offer online verifications, please have official license verification(s) sent directly to the Board via mail or email.
- Military affiliation documentation, if applicable, must be provided to receive a 50% discount on initial licensing fees.

All applicants & licensees should be familiar with the practice laws and regulations under which they are applying or licensed to work and may test their knowledge in our optional Jurisprudence Exam.
Supervising SLP Qualifications
Per NAC 637B/LCB File R026-25, Sec. 12, an SLP must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to act as a Supervising SLP:
- Hold a standard license as a speech-language pathologist that is on active status;
- Have experience as an SLP for a minimum of 2 years after obtaining the ASHA CCC-SLP;
- Have completed at least 2 hours of professional development in clinical instruction or supervision;
- Have the same employer as any Provisional SLP or SLPA they supervise;
- Is in good standing with the Board and has no record of disciplinary action.
SLPA Supervision Requirements
SLPAs and their employers/supervising SLPs must adhere to all laws & regulations in NRS 637B and NAC 637B/LCB File R026-25 regarding supervision & ration, delegation of duties, scope of practice and prohibited duties, etc. Please also see our SLP Support Personnel Practice & Supervision page for additional guidance.

Application & License Fee
Limited
A limited license is appropriate for an applicant holding a current, equivalent license issued by any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia, who meets all requirements for a standard license, and intends to demonstrate using clients or patients as a presenter or instructor at an educational presentation, seminar, or educational setting in Nevada.
This license is only intended for use in an instructional setting and does NOT allow short-term practice. Limited licenses expire 15 days from the date of issuance and may not be renewed or converted.

- A current, equivalent license in good standing issued by any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
