Application & Licensing Overview

Who We License

The Board licenses qualified practitioners seeking to practice in Nevada - OR - treat a person in Nevada, regardless of the practitioner's state of residence or other licenses held, or patient's state of residence. Some exceptions apply. Specific information and requirements for the types of licenses offered may be found in the links below:

Please note that Nevada Assembly Bill 177 (2025) made significant revisions to our licensing laws, but is not effective until January 1, 2026, and  proposed regulations may also result in licensing changes.

Application Processing

  • All new applications and payments must be submitted online through our website.
  • The Board will accept a check by mail, but this is not the preferred method of payment and will delay application processing, as application review will not begin until payment is received.
  • Once a complete application and payment are received, we typically issue a license within 5 calendar days when hearing aid dispensing exams are not required. Applications requiring these exams average approximately 90 days to license issuance.
  • Board staff will contact the applicant by email or phone regarding any outstanding information or documentation needed to process an application.
  • Applicants may check the progress of their application on our Application Status page.
  • Upon issuance of a license, the applicant will be notified via email with a PDF copy of the license attached. In an effort to minimize operating costs, the Board does not print/mail licenses.

New Graduates & Official Transcripts

In cases where an applicant is not able to obtain an official transcript in a timely manner due to institutional policy or other circumstances not under their control, a letter of completion from an educational institution signed by either the registrar, Dean, or Department Chair may be accepted. The applicant is responsible for following up to ensure the official transcript is sent to the Board once issued.

Military Members, Veterans, Spouses, & Gold Star Family Members

  • A 50% discount on initial licensing fees is available for all military members, veterans, military/veteran spouses, and Gold Star family members.
  • When completing the online application, military affiliation must be affirmative where requested and supporting documentation must be uploaded into the application.
  • The system will automatically adjust the fee due at the time of submission and payment.

Child Support Disclosure

NRS 425.520 mandates that applicants for state and locally issued licenses must answer three questions related to child support when applying for or renewing a license. Per NRS 637B.166, the Board may not issue or renew the license if the applicant fails to answer the child support questions, or answers that they are NOT in compliance with a child support order. If an applicant indicates this, the Board must advise them to contact the entity enforcing the order to find out how to satisfy the arrearage. NRS 353C.1965 also requires the Board to send biannual reports of license renewals and state business license information to the State Controller's Office for review of whether a licensee owes a debt to the State. The statute further authorizes licensing agencies to deny a renewal application to a licensee who owes a debt to the State if the licensee refuses to satisfy the debt, or defaults on a payment plan after notification, hearing, and settlement opportunities are exhausted.

Criminal History & Professional Licensing Action Attestation

The Board does not require criminal background checks, but applicants must attest to a series of questions related to criminal history and professional licensing actions when applying for or renewing a license. Licensees must also report certain adverse actions taken against them to the Board. Any affirmative response requires an explanatory statement and supporting documentation of the incident and its resolution. Per Board policy, the Board’s Executive Director will review the application and either 1) make a determination on the matter or 2) place the matter on the agenda of the next meeting for a review by the Board. The Board also has authority to query and report to the National Practitioner Data Bank.
